"Mosquitoes, Malaria, and Michigan" Presentation w/ Bay County Mosquito Control Manager Rebecca Brandt

Rebecca Brandt, Manager of Bay County Mosquito Control in collaboration with Dr. Carl Doud of Midland County Mosquito Control, will present a historical backdrop of the plight of mosquitoes and malaria on early settlers in 19th century Saginaw Valley. Learn the role mosquitoes played in the abandonment of Fort Saginaw, the profound effect mosquitoes had on Alexis DeTocqueville's book Into The Wilderness, as well as how changes in the region’s habitat helped settle this once “uninhabitable” land.
